Savard - Revised TOC

Hello!

I revised my Table of Contents alot. I filled it with more pages because previously I had too much negative space around. I chose to have 4 features and just highlight those.
Also, the folio will probably change, so just ignore that for now.

Please let me know what you think. Again, I have had some trouble with this page, so lots of feedback would be really helpful!

Thanks so much!

  1. I noticed that #s 2-8 are not lined up with the page titles. They should be, like the #s on the bottom half. So ignore that.

  2. Erica – this contents is coming together really well. Here are the next steps, as I see it:

I can see how you have introduced a 3 column grid, however the page 4 image and the numbers directly to the right of that image don’t seem to sit in their columns to align with the other elements on the grid. Why not? I’m not sure that breaking the grid in this way is as successful as it could be. Instead, why not pull all images and lists onto the grid. Maybe breaking the grid with the large article names will be enough to add dynamic tension to the design.

After you have widened that first image (page 4) and moved the top list over to the right to sit in the middle column, consider running a light color behind this middle column from top to bottom of the page. That will add some shapes to the background, creating some depth on the page.

Then, considering how large the article names are, and exactly where their positions will be is the next, and last issue to deal with. But only after you have nudged the other elements more clearly onto the grid. You might want to add color to their text frames, and tuck the frames a bit behind the images to which they relate… actually attaching them together. Please ask me tomorrow in class what I mean if this isn’t clear.

I wonder if you want to add “The Future of Food” to the top of the page? It’s up to you.

  3. The colors and content look great. Two things that kind of jump out at me are first, the alignment of the page numbers going down the middle of the layout. The one's found on the top half of the page are more to the left than those found on the bottom section. I wonder if aligning them might provide better continuity. Second, the copy is found below three of the images, but the copy on the top left most image is found to the right of the image. I might consider putting it blow the image as you have done with the other three.
