Ticas_Progress

Hello Class! I'm little late but here's my progress so far. I didn't want to post everything because later in class I will have it printed. But here is my cover that has changed a little bit, and my table of contents that has changed completely. I wanted to be more playful and Rob suggested spreading the image across both pages and it went perfect!

Lastly, the AD. It is still very rough right now. So please help here. It would be great!

See you in class later!

  1. Naidin!

I really enjoy the reorganization of your cutlines on the left, I think they sit much more evenly. The 2 page TOC works well, I like the ig bold page numbers, and the image your chose sits very nicely. I almost think the cover story page number is too large, it fits well but it almost takes over for me. The ad looks very much like a social campaign, I like that a lot! Perfect for your target audience.

  2. Nadine – these pages are coming close to being done. The cover is great, and the ad works well. I do have questions about the TofC.

I’m wondering if you have only that 1 feature article to highlight here? Because I know what the article is about – I’m questioning the juxtaposition of the type “The New Face of Hunger” with your large photo of a carefree girl in a field of wheat? Strange, no? The photo is great, so I’m wondering if you would consider highlighting another article (or even a department article) instead of the depressing one about hunger.

The placement of the name “Habitat” and the date all seems to hug their respective corners… almost as if they don’t “play” well together. Are those the best areas for this info? Should they be together?

    That’s it – nice work.

  3. Nadine,

LOVE the cover! It reminds me so much of a cover that would be designed for Seventeen magazine so I think you nailed it on the head!

For the ToC, I think this is a hugeeee improvement from your previous version. I love the subtle transparent green box. It works so well with your large numbers and white type. I also like that the feature story is separated from the other articles and makes it so bold and makes me want to turn immediately to that page. However, just be careful about where the spine of the magazine will be because it would be a shame if it cut through the girl. If it does, maybe make her a little more on the left page instead of center.

For the advertisement, I am not sure if that's the color palette and type choices that the organization uses, but it reminds me too much of your ToC. It looks more like an ad made by this particular magazine rather than by this organization. Try using a different color for the transparent box since its similar to the one in ToC. And maybe try using a fun and young typeface that stands out more. Just some suggestions.
