Roy - TOC

HI FRIENDS!

Here is my TOC for the magazine (:
Just a reminder my target audience is basically a modern day hipster/hippie who is a super trendy 21-29 year old and they really care about the environment, being healthy, and living organically.

I like the image choice and the circle cropping. I think it especially works well with the typeface you chose because the Os are perfectly round. I like the background image especially since there is a DIY project (very clever idea for the target audience). My only suggestion would be to change the leading between your headlines and and article names.

  2. Chelsey – I think the enlarged photo to denote the feature is a great idea. Nice.

The wood texture in the background makes us feel like we are “back on the farm” against the barn wall, and I’m sure this is intentional. However, the vertical lines that are part of this paneling are interfering with the type elements – dividing words in half and cutting the composition up. Since these vertical lines are very visible, you have to either work with them intentionally or do some work in Photoshop to seriously minimize their impact in the design.

We have talked about making “Habitat” masthead a bit more readable (that “b” could also be an “le”). I’m just reminding you about that. Lastly, the FR department titles lead us off the page, and not down to the articles and pg #s. Keep them FL, where they belong.
